Beef Pepper Rice
I am so in love with Pepper Lunch’s Beef Pepper Rice. But its not possible (or practical) to dine out there everyday so I did my best to try and create my own version of a dish that is made out of Beef slices, rice, and a lot of pepper. It was a challenge to exactly replicate the appearance even the taste of the dish that came over from the Japanese but it was something that satisfied my craving. I used thick strips of beef as that was what we had available so for next time, I will make sure to buy super thin slices (like bacon) for my next beef pepper rice.
Ingredients:
1/4 kilo very thin strips of beef
1 cup of corn kernels
2 cups cooked white rice
2 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp teriyaki sauce
sesame oil
a LOT of black pepper powder
Procedures:
Put wok over high heat. Once the wok starts to smoke, put in the sesame oil. Stir fry the beef strips for about 1-2 minutes or until slightly cooked. Don’t forget to keep stirring or the beef will stick to the wok or worse get burned. Remove the beef from the wok. Add a bit more sesame oil to the wok and put in the rice, soy sauce and teriyaki sauce. Stir fry like there’s no tomorrow. Add in lots of pepper – depending on how much pepper taste you want out of the dish. Put back the beef and corn and stir until everything is cooked. Serve while piping hot.

So the corn is to be served straight from the can or should it be stir fried along with the beef?
Same here. I too am very much in love with Pepper Lunch’s Beef Pepper Rice. Yum yum. Haven’t tried recreating it though, probably never will. I’m no good in the kitchen. I could taste a little butter in the dish though, did you add some to your version?
wow that looks good!!! now im craving for pepper lunch! hehehe!
PL’s DOUBLE beef pepper rice + ton of HONEY BROWN SAUCE is HAPPINESS! lol.
i even blogged it twice or more already and got comments from jeroen vs himself.
i’ve also learned that what makes PL so delish than the other ‘copy-cat’ resto in mallsis the fact that PL only uses the shell of peppercorn.
…but your recipe here is a must try! i’ll share this to my wifey for her to surprise me with homecooked version ala-kubiertos! thanks =)
biyay – Put it last as you stir fry everything together. Its better when its hot like everything else.
Em Dy – I know that there is butter in the Pepper Lunch’s dish but I did not include it in mine. I am pretty sure it would taste better with butter but I prefer none in mine (pretending to be avoid more fat). LOL
mrs lavendula – Thanks!
docgelo – Thanks for the tip. I actually see some Japanese black pepper at the grocery but have never tried it. I only use the more common McCormick. I wonder if Japanese black pepper will really make a difference in taste?
WAAAAAH! Looks delicious… Imma gonna try cooking this up sooooooon, although I’m no good cook.. Hehe..
that looks so good. I love beef pepper rice
. I’ll try this, thanks for sharing
noah – Its super easy! Let me know how it turns out.
jeanny – You’re welcome!
