Revisiting Cyma

Ever since I first ate at Cyma, I have been wanting to go back. I had tons of opportunities to go back because as it turns out, my clients, colleagues and friends are all fans of Cyma’s delicious food. This post actually tells of the different dishes I have tried and have come to love during the many times I (re)visited this restaurant.

First off is the lamb gyro (pronounced yeer-oh). My tongue got all twisted up trying to pronounce all the stuff on the menu correctly, including gyro. This time, I looked at the server while I ordered it and sort of trailed on the last syllable hoping he would finish it for me. He did and now I have searched the net and discovered that it really is pronounced as yeer-oh.

Because I love lamb, we ordered that one together with the chicken version. It did not disappoint me in taste. I say that because it was a challenge trying to get it to fit inside my mouth. The whole wheat pita was packed with meat, onions and creamy Tzatziki. So I had to break it down into smaller pieces and eventually slaughtered its presentation. If I were at eating it at the privacy of my own home, I would have wolfed it down without batting an eyelash. However, I was at Greenbelt 2 branch of Cyma with clients and colleagues and it just isn’t too professional to be caught with sauce dripping down the sides of my chin. Eww.

On another visit, my friend and I had lambs galore. We ordered the lamb chops and the paidakia which is the equivalent of America’s baby back ribs. Both were equally tender and succulent. Each rubbed with their own special combination of spices, both cooked to perfection. Of the two though, I must say that I loved the lamb chops better. Maybe because it had more meat surface that it was able to absorb all the spices it was subjected to. Yum. I want meat! Now! Hehe.

To end a perfect meal at Cyma, I suggest you order the Skolatina. This is Cyma’s version of the Molten Chocolate cake. There are three elements to this delectable dessert. First, the molten chocolate cake. The cake literally oozes with melted chocolate. Its warm and comforting and not too sweet.

The second part is the Vanilla ice cream. What struck me about the ice cream is its slightly yellow color. I am used to seeing a creamy white color in vanilla flavored ice cream but this was yellowish indeed. I am thinking its more mantecado than vanilla. You could argue the lack of difference in the two flavors but to me, mantecado ice cream means creamier and egg-ier kind (if there is such a term).

Lastly, the menu states the dessert comes with roasted chestnut sauce. Now I will not pretend to know what chestnut sauce tastes or even looks like but I must say it rocks my socks off. It reminds me of caramel that I have led my mind to believe it caramel sauce. I will continue to think like this until such time I have had the chance to try actual roasted chestnut sauce. Maybe then it will replace my favorite caramel sauce.

Now don’t you feel like shouting – Opa!
