La Maison at Greenbelt 5
La Maison, french for “the house” is a high end dining establishment with posh masculine interiors that go along with its offering of steaks and ribs. The one at Greenbelt 5 had a motif of brown and white which reminded me of hotels and cigar bars. Others may become intimidated which is probably why the place was filled with “suits”.
The place is cramped making it a feat for not-so-thin people to move to their table but I quickly forgot that as the seats were cushioned and comfy. The menu were handed was big and denim. It was a bit of a surprise as I felt denim would be an awkward choice for such a place. Although I did love the detail that was in the denim menus. So much so that I couldn’t help but gush my delight at the waiter taking our orders. I was about to give in and admit that the place was definitely high end when I opened the menu and read – Barkada Meals – that indicated the meals were prepared in large portions meant for large groups. Tsk tsk.
As I was lusting after meat that day, I ordered myself a medium well rib eye steak with a side of mashed potatoes. I waited in anticipation as I watched the other diners get their orders. I salivated as a big plate of ribs went by. My eyes went big at the sight of the mussels in cream sauce.
My food came and I found the serving too big for me to finish… or so I thought. The steak was topped with asparagus wrapped in bacon and one of the most tasteful sauces I have had. It was actually a good mix to the mashed potatoes that totally lacked flavor. The beef was tender although nothing to really rave about. But I did finish the whole thing. The sauce was just too good to have some left over.
All in all, I was satisfied. I plan to go back and try their ribs. I have read they were great.

food here is good, but inconsistent. TRy to aqvoid the salad wih tuna.. the tuna was dry as wood when we got it. Ribs are big and good, but there were other comment on being dry.. thus the inconsistensy. THe mussels are good also the sole fillet…
Hiro – I guess inconsistent is the best term to describe it. Not sure how new or old La Maison is but I do hope they move towards consistency.

i tried la maison. i guess it wasn’t that great because it didn’t have a lasting moments with me haha! the best steak i had is at buon giorno tagaytay. a P500 something steak could be shared by two. thet have a new branch along shaw. i don’t know if they have the same food and service though. =)
sakura – buon giorno is the name of the place? I have heard good things about that place. Hope I could try it soon!

Hi,
I just visited La Maison in Greenbelt 5, at first I was excited as I myself is a food adventurous type of person.
So i ordered their Meat Bounty as it got everything: Chicken, Beef, Pork and a rib. For the drinks, i tasted their red wine first but i didn’t liked it, though it was a merlot-shiraz combination which is the combination i want for my red wine, so i settled for a san mig light.
The waiter gave us 2 bread, 1 black and a white bread, and a soy-sauce with olive oil (ala Italiannis), but it didn’t clicked to us as well. The bread didn’t matched the soy-sauce with olive oil or i just got used in the taste with Italiannis…so we asked for a Parmesan cheese but still it didn’t do justice to the bread, i think butter would have been the best partner for the bread.
For the dish, we began sampling each variant…but we almost half way over dish but we’re so dis-appointed as the meat isn’t tasty at all as well as the pork, chicken and the ribs. Sorry for this, but i think Hot racks in Libis has given the meat more justice than La Maison.
The mashed potatoes, is so dry…i even have to asked for a gravy so that it can have that moist feel, for the steam vegetables i think it’s fair as i love zucchini and carrots but man, the peas are out-numbering the combined number of carrots, zucchini and eggplant.
Over all, La Maison dis-appointed me. Am not going back there anymore.
On my way out, I saw Chateu 171 (did i spelled it correctly?), it’s my next destination and i’ll post my review also here.
Reply to Jerry:
Soy sauce ala itaniannis? I think it’s black vinegar.

In my opinion, La Maison is not a high end establishment, because if that’s the case, it would make Le Souffle and Wasabi extreme high end. But I guess, like aesthetics, it’s also a matter of perspective.
Ed – Youre definitely right. High end/low end is a matter of perspective. As I have not eaten at Le Souffle, I cannot profess to know much about the place. I have tried Wasabi though and I dont think it is in the same league as Le Souffle. More La Maison I think. If you would notice from the places I have been to, La Maison, Myron’s and probably places that offer at least Php 1000 to Php 1500 a meal is at the high end for me. So yeah, my bad – La maison appears high end with the way the place may have been designed and where it is located. However, denim menus and “barkada meals” takes it to another level – a lower level most probably.
Jerry – The soy sauce (ala Italiannis) is actually balsamic vinegar. Combined with olive oil and parmesan cheese, it is great for dipping bread – like foccacia.
Hi AppleSH / Ed,
Thanks for correcting me, i know it but forgot what it’s called @ the time I gave my comment. Anyway, I must say that Itallianis’s version is far better than La Maison not to mention the bread.
Thanks for the feedback.

Jerry

Rich – I dont think they have a website. But if I find out something I will let you know.

Well, I understand we have different tastes and likes. I loved so much their black bread with balsamic and olive oil dipping. My family and I usually dine on week end, our favorite are their succulent Baby Back Ribs and the fish with Hollandaise sauce, sole fish. La Maison did a minor renovation I noticed with their menu and table set up, not denim anymore. Just yesterday together with my office mate, We we’re surprised the sandwich we ordered was good for two already for only P205.
Maye – Its nice to hear they changed the style of their menus. I really feel denim is out of place in a place such as La Maison. Since I transferred offices, I haven’t been back yet and I am suddenly remembering and craving for their chocolate bread. Yum.
The black complimentary bread is not chocolate. It’s squid ink bread. They don’t have it anymore. But I loved it.
The ribs are delicious. The sauce is great too. For the price, it’s value for your money. I always get the meat platter since it has everything I want.
My first visit there was vday last year and have been going there since. They had a special menu for vday and it was beef ribs with wild mushrooms. Yum yum. So far the quality of the food during my visits there were consistent. But I haven’t had steak there. So I wouldn’t know how good or bad the steak is. Love the 60 pesos garlic potatoes.
It is not high end. But the casual ambiance is good enough for a family dinner or a more tame barkada dinner.
